Some Common FAQs

Not sure if coaching is the way to go for you?

We answered some frequently asked questions about what
you can expect when you engage in the coaching process.

What is UX Coaching?

UX coaching focuses on where you are presently in your UX career and where you are headed, with a goal of helping you gain clarity about your vision, eliminate obstacles to your success, accelerate the pace of personal growth and achieve results that empower you to live your best life – professionally and personally.

There are so many different roles in User Experience that it can be overwhelming to hone in on what you do best. During our coaching sessions, I’ll break down all the different roles and then discuss your interests and help you figure out what you have an aptitude to be successful doing.

How will I know if coaching is right for me?

Coaching requires a willingness to explore ideas, beliefs, and assumptions. If you’re open to being challenged with the goal of moving you forward then you would be an ideal coaching client.

My job as your coach is not to tell you what to do, but rather to help you uncover the answers that lie within you. I believe in your ability to fully experience your potential and will provide a safe, consistent space for you to develop your potential. You will be encouraged and supported as you reach for your goals.

What is your approach to coaching?

My approach relies heavily on positive psychology. Positive psychology is a scientific approach to studying human thoughts, feelings, and behavior, with a focus on your strengths instead of your weaknesses.

How long will I need to coach with you?

Everyone is different but on average I have seen my clients make the most improvement when they coach for a minimum of 6 months.

How will we meet?

We will meet by telephone or via Google Meet each month based on the number of sessions you selected. You may find it helpful to email me your coaching call agenda for the call prior to our session (the form will be provided to you in your welcome packet). This will give you time to clarify what you most want to focus on.

How is payment handled?

You will be able to make payment when you sign up for your sessions either in full or according to a payment plan. You will receive confirmation of your package along with any further instructions when you sign-up.

How are changes or cancellations handled?

We request that you make your coaching sessions a priority. In the event that you need to reschedule, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. Likewise, your coach may also need to reschedule a session on occasion. She will give you as much notice as possible and try to make rescheduling as convenient as possible.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

It is important to me that you have clarity about the difference between coaching and other types of professional services such as therapy or counseling, consulting, and mentoring. Coaching focuses on where you are presently and where you are headed, with the goal of helping you gain clarity about your vision, eliminate obstacles to your success, accelerate the pace of personal growth and achieve results that empower you to live your best life – professionally and personally. We can focus on any area of your life: Relationships, Finances, Spiritual Life, Work, and Business, or Physical Health and Environments, special attention will focus on your career, specifically in the field of UX Design. While coaching is forward-focused, counseling tends to deal more with past issues in which you may find yourself stuck and struggling. We may occasionally discuss something that has occurred in the past, for the purpose of clarifying the present, but your coaching will not focus on resolving the past. A simple rule of thumb to know whether you should be coaching or counseling: If your past is an issue, counseling is your best option. If your past is simply a fact (regardless of whether the circumstances were difficult or negative), you are probably ready for coaching. If it appears that there is an issue for which you may need counseling, I will suggest it. With the support of a counselor or therapist, some individuals choose to engage in coaching and counseling simultaneously, but with a focus on different areas of life for each service.
