As the year comes to a close, it’s time to prepare your brand for a fresh start. The best part? You don’t need a big budget or to hire anyone—just a bit of focus and determination. I created a list of 10 things you can do yourself to maximize your brand’s potential and start the new year with momentum.
1. Audit Your Website
Your website is your digital storefront and the cornerstone of your marketing—it matters more than your social media presence. It’s especially important if it’s part of your digital marketing funnel, then you want to get people there to engage with your content. Here are a few things you should do. Check for outdated information, broken links, or slow loading pages. Make sure your contact info is easy to find and all pages are mobile-friendly. A polished website sets the foundation for everything else. You can use the free SEMrush Audit to help you.
2. Repurpose Old Content
Look at your old blog posts, newsletters, or videos from earlier this year. Can you turn a blog post into a social media carousel? Or a popular video into a short blog post? Repurposing content saves time and keeps your audience engaged without starting from scratch. I’ve been playing around with Lumen5 which can turn my blog posts into video content. Try it out and see what magic you can create.
3. Refresh Your Top Performers
Data can give you so much information about your website visitors and what pages you should be optimizing. Check your Google Analytics for the blog posts, social media content, or videos that performed best. Update them with new insights or re-share them with fresh graphics. People may have forgotten about them, but they’re still valuable. If you haven’t claimed your Google Business Listing do so today. It’s a great way to gather testimonials from your clients, which are going to boost your SEO. (Just enter you name into Google and when your business comes up, claim the listing). It will look something like mine below and it will show up on the right of your screen.
4. Revisit Your “About” Page
Has your story or mission evolved this year? Take a moment to re-read your “About” page. Update the content to reflect where you’re headed and make sure it aligns with your brand’s voice.
5. Create a Simple Content Calendar
Plan out your content themes for the first quarter of the year. Identify key dates, like holidays or product launches, and brainstorm content ideas. Having a plan reduces stress and keeps your marketing consistent and fresh. I really love using Planoly for this. It knows all the holidays, even the obscure ones, and helps me create a plan for the year. You can create a free account to help you get started.
6. Reorganize Your Digital Assets
Go through your folders and files. Sort your logos, photos, and graphics into an easy-to-navigate system. A little digital housekeeping now saves time later and ensures you’re ready to create when inspiration strikes.
7. Re-engage Your Email List
Your email list includes the people who want to hear from you, the same can’t be said about all the people who are following you on social media. Send them a warm end-of-year message. Thank them for their support and share a highlight or two from the year. Ask what they’d like to see from you next year—it’s a great way to strengthen connections and gather ideas.
8. Revamp Your Social Media Bios
Update your bios to clearly state who you are, what you do, and how you help. Include a call-to-action that points back to your website. Social media is the handshake, but your website is where the relationship grows.
9. Review Your Metrics
Take a quick look at the numbers from this year—website traffic, email open rates, or social media engagement. Identify what worked and what didn’t so you can focus your energy where it matters most in the coming year. Start a simple Google Sheet or Excel Spreadsheet for this information.
10. Set Goals for the New Year
Write down three achievable goals for your brand. Maybe it’s growing your email list, launching a new product, or simply staying consistent with content. Having clear goals will give you something to work toward and a way to better measure your success.
In closing, I want to remind you that your website, content, and community are your most powerful assets—use them wisely. If you take these steps now, you’ll set yourself up for a productive and stress-free new year. Remember, small actions now can lead to big results later! Start today and watch your brand soar in the new year!
